There are some movies that you go to for deep, meaningful value (okay…or at least so you know what pretentious people are talking about.) There are other movies that you go to purely for the cheap entertainment - dumb but fun action or comedies that you know you’re just seeing for the fun of it. During an interview with the-trades.com, screenwriters Wade and Neal Purvis have debunked the rumor that the as yet unnamed Bond 22 will be based on Ian Fleming’s short story, Risico.

With Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema locked in a bitter stalemate, the LA Times reports that The Hobbit and the other as yet untitled Lord of the Rings movie may have found a director.Following recent rumors that he was being courted for the project, Spider-Man helmer Sam Raimi has been telling associates, as well as his corporate masters at Sony, that he is thinking of taking on the project. At least two top-level insiders – who declined to be named — have heard the words out of the director’s mouth.
As yet, New Line says it doesn’t have a deal with the director, and Raimi hasn’t met with Shaye or production president Toby Emmerich. A potential spanner in the works might be the fact that MGM owns the distribution rights to the film and the studio is very much in the Jackson camp. “We support Peter Jackson, and when the dust settles, we believe he is the one who will be making this movie.” said an MGM spokesperson recently.

M. Night Shyamalan’S plans to adapt the cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender into a live-action film for Paramount could be on hold for the time being.
Instead he is set to start work on the The Green Effect, a film about a large-scale, cataclysmic environmental crisis that turns into a struggle by mankind to overcome nature.
Coming off the first failure of his career in Lady in the Water, Variety reports that the script was hawked around several wary studio execs during a recent Hollywood visit.
