The Sunday Mail reports that 28-year-old British actor James McAvoy has been offered the role of Scotty in Star Trek XI.
McAvoy earned praise for his performance as the fawn Mr. Tumnus in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and was seen on screen recently as Nicholas Garrigan in The Last King of Scotland. Rather than adopting a James Doohan’s fake Scottish brogue, McAvoy can produce an authentic Scots accent, having been born in Glasgow.

Sci-Fi Wire has been talking to Doctor Who star David Tennant about series 3, and in particular the introduction of Freema Agyeman as a new assistant and the departure of fan favorite Billie Piper.
The Scottish actor openly admits that filming the last scenes with the Rose Tyler character was a struggle, “Of course that scene meant that Billie was leaving the show (although it wasn’t the final scene she shot), and that was very sad,” Tennant said. “She is a great actor and had become a great friend. It’s also a beautifully written scene, and even when we ran through the lines together on the makeup bus that morning, we started sniffling. In fact, in the video diaries on the DVD you can see us both have a good old weep about the whole thing.”
