Al Pacino will step into the role of surrealist painter Salvadore Dali in a new film by Andrew Niccol, the director of S1mone and Gattaca (and the author of The Truman Show), according to Variety.
DaliĀ & I: The Surreal Story will be based on Niccol’s script adaptation of the Stan Lauryssen book “Dali and I”. The film will cover the artist’s later days, with Niccol stating that it was then when the painter decided to take a more surreal approach in his work. Niccol feels that Pacino understood the subject.

The first concrete details about next year’s feature by Disney-owned animation studio Pixar have emerged in a letter which mouse house CEO Robert Iger sent to shareholders.
Variety reports that WALL-E will be about a robot looking for a home in outer space. The animated film will be directed by Andrew Stanton, who won an Oscar for Finding Nemo and co-directed Toy Story 2. WALLE-E is scheduled for release June 27, 2008, and it is believed that the studio is also working on a third Toy Story film for 2009. This June, Pixar releases Ratatouille, its eighth film.

Universal Pictures has optioned Black Swan, a psychological thriller to be produced by The Fountain and Requiem for a Dream director Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa.
Aronofsky is also attached to direct the John McLaughlin script, which inspects the manipulative relationship between a veteran dancer and a rival, according to Variety. Universal acquired the rights on the basis of a detailed outline provided by Aronofsky and McLaughlin.

Christopher Eccleston has been talking to Herosite.net about his role in the next series of television show Heroes.
“What attracted me to ‘Heroes’ is that they came in for me, and I appreciated that,” said Eccleston “We talked about two roles, and it was Claude that I decided on, the second role.”
The Doctor Who star was originally offered a role as a villain, which he declined saying “I think that it’s somewhat of a cliche for European actors to play villains in American culture, and I didn’t want to be part of that.”
