shatnersmall.jpgSci-Fi wire have managed to catch up with William Shatner and ask him about J.J. Abram’s upcoming Star Trek movie which has been rumored to focus on the early years of James T Kirk and Spock at Starfleet Academy.

“I met with J.J., and they told me they would like me to be part of their film, but they have to write the role,” Shatner said. When asked about the plot, Shatner confirmed the earlier rumours saying “Yes, we know the story is based on young Kirk” and added cryptically, “They need to figure out how to put the dead captain in with the young captain, it’s a very complex, technical problem of how to write the character in, and I’m not sure how they will solve it.”

Whether this means that Shatner will be resurrecting Kirk in a time-travelling storyline or that Bill is getting a little bit confused in his old age remains to be seen.

peterjacksonsmall.jpgFollowing New Line Cinema head honcho Robert Shaye’s verbal tongue lashing of Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, the Kiwi filmmaker via his Wingnut production company has fired back. The following is their official statement:

“Our issue with New Line Cinema has only ever been about their refusal to account for financial anomalies that surfaced from a partial audit of The Fellowship of the Ring. Contrary to recent comments made by Bob Shaye, we attempted to discuss the issues raised by the Fellowship audit with New Line for over a year but the studio was and continues to be completely uncooperative. This has compelled us to file a lawsuit to pursue our contractual rights under the law. Nobody likes taking legal action, but the studio left us with no alternative.

pirates3small.jpgAICN has published some great new stills from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, although as the images have not been provided by an official source they may not be final.

As well as depicting the established cast, there is also a nice image of Yun-Fat Chow as the evil Captain Sao Feng. Sao Feng is a Chinese pirate captain who leads a gang of supernatural buccaneers and commands a warship named the The Empress.

Batman-on-film reports that Eion Bailey, Edward Norton, and Jamie Foxx have all been considered for the part of Harvey Dent in the next Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Apparently Bailey auditioned for the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins and director Chris Nolan was mightily impressed. Norton’s representatives at this stage deny the rumor and say that he has not been offered anything.

Michael Caine has been talking to Army Archerd about his involvement in the movie and has said “I love doing it, even though Christopher Nolan doesn’t let me keep the script once I’ve seen it — and only in his presence.” The veteran British thesp also revealed that the movie will be shot on location in Hong Kong, London, L.A. and Baltimore.

The Dark Knight  will see Batman and Gordon joining forces with newly appointed DA Harvey Dent to stop a vicious killer with a warped sense of humor known only as The Joker, a threat to both the good, and the evil of Gotham City. The film is scheduled for a 2008 release.

Philip Seymour HoffmanCharlie Kaufman is one of Hollywood’s most innovative screenwriters; his credits include scripts for films like Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which finally won him an Oscar). We reported back in August that not only has he written a new project entitled Synecdoche, he has also decided to sit in the director’s chair himself for the first time.

The Hollywood Reporter now has an update on the project. Apparently, the title has been slightly altered to Synecdoche, New York, and five actors are on board to star in the movie: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Michelle Williams, Samantha Morton and Tilda Swinton.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
