Philip Pullman's The Subtle Knife (Book Cover)Today has shaped up to be a great day for fans and followers of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials books and/or Chris Weitz’s film adaptation of the first part, The Golden Compass. Following the new film images released earlier today, news has just arrived that the adaptation of the second installment has been set in motion.

According to Variety, New Line has comissioned Hossein Amini (The Wings of the Dove, The Four Feathers, Killshot) to write a script based on Pullman’s second novel in the series, The Subtle Knife. Though whether or not that film will get made depends on the success of The Golden Compass (released December 7), with its $150 million budget presenting quite a risk. In The Subtle Knife, a second main character is introduced: Will, a troubled boy from our own dimension.

Sam Elliot as Lee ScoresbyThree new images have surfaced from His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass on Aint-it-cool.com.

The images include depictions of Lyra Belacqua played by Dakota Blue Richards, Lee Scoresby played by Sam Elliott and the compass itself. In The Golden Compass, Lyra sets out from an Oxford set in a parallel world to our own, and travels far north to save her best friend, on a quest that will take her through the lands of armoured bears, warring witch-clans and through gates to new universes.

The Golden Compass is director Chris Weitz’s adaptation of the first book of author Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. Shooting on the film began at Shepperton Studios in the UK in September. The film, which also stars Casino Royale duo Daniel Craig and Eva Green, is set for release in November 2007. Hulk Is Hero. It has been a long and hard two years for director Louis Letterier. To bring The Incredible Hulk to the screen was not only only a huge task in terms of scale but also in terms of a media and fanbase who were protective over a character they felt had been misconstrued […]

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
