Bumblebee (CG Rendering)It seems the Japanese are privy to a Transformers teaser trailer that is slightly different than that released in US cinemas and online over the holidays.

The official Japanese Transformers website is now running a clip that has additional footage. While the scene of the protoform crash-landing on Earth at the beginning of the video has been omitted, newly added scenes reveal Bumblebee’s face in non-battle mode, rear shots of Skorponok and the Allspark (a.k.a. Energon Cube). Watch it here.

Pan's LabyrinthEl Laberinto del Fauno (which is the original Spanish title of the film) shows Mexican-born genre director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Blade II) stepping up onto a level of truly great filmmaking and storytelling. He blends dark fantasy and war in a tale that sees a young girl named Ofelia arriving with her pregnant mother at a military outpost in the Spanish rural woods. Just ouside the encampment, Ofelia, a lover of fantastical books, finds a maze that leads her to a Faun, who tells her she is a long lost princess who can return to her rightful throne if she can solve three tasks by the next full moon.

Ian Fleming's Dark Horizons has picked up on rumours that the next James Bond film would use elements from ‘Risico’, one of Ian Fleming’s short stories that appeared in his For Your Eyes Only collection. Two weeks ago, British tabloids claimed that the title and much of the book’s storyline would be used, but with minor details (certain characters) changed to follow on the events in Casino Royale.

The site’s source however (one of their oldest, they claim) has partly refuted these rumours: “‘Sun’ claims that “The Risico talk is bulls*&t, none of the story details exist right now - period. Purvis and Wade have thrown around the idea of using some plot threads from the old books that weren’t used in the movies before, but Risico isn’t one of them because its been done. Fact is if they use anything from it at all, it’ll be name only”.

Daniel Craig as Lord AsrielA reporter from the British newspaper The Observer recently got a chance to sit down with Daniel Craig (Munich, Casino Royale) on the set of The Golden Compass, the adaptation of Philip Pullman’s first His Dark Materials book.

Apart from the reporter noting some observations from the Shepperton Studios (”Witches and warlocks bowl past in hippy dreadlocks; I swear I’ve just seen a polar bear in full armour”), the article also mentions Craig doesn’t want Pullman’s subversive text to be watered down. “I’m clinging on to it with my fingernails,” he observes.

vindieselsmall.jpgFollowing an interview with WorstPreviews™, it seems that Vin Diesel’s stalled Hannibal the Conqueror project is finally on course for a 2008 release.

“It’s been a passion project” the actor said, “If you do something like that, you want to go all the way. Usually, you want to go all the way when the subject matter or topic speaks to you so much that you have these scenes playing out in your head all the time. That’s usually a pretty good indication that you need to find a way to make it.”

Diesel is set to direct the movie about the Carthaginian commander which will be filmed in ancient Greek, Latin and Punic from an adaptation of Ross Leckie’s novel by Gladiator scribe David Franzoni. Apparently Diesel has been scouting for locations in Spain and is already polishing up his elephant riding skills.

darkcrystalsmall.jpgAICN have acquired some early sketches and designs from the The Power of the Dark Crystal.

The Power of the Dark Crystal is the sequel to the 1982 fantasy film The Dark Crystal, by Jim Henson and Frank Oz. The project is being overseen by animator Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Clone Wars) who is set to direct and produce the movie through the Orphanage Animation Studios. Renowned fantasy artist Brian Froud, who was chief designer on the first film, will return to design the creatures and characters. The film will incorporate CGI backgrounds with animatronic muppets.

Hulk Is Hero. It has been a long and hard two years for director Louis Letterier. To bring The Incredible Hulk to the screen was not only only a huge task in terms of scale but also in terms of a media and fanbase who were protective over a character they felt had been misconstrued [...]

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
