planetterrorsmall.pngThe Grindhouse marketing machine continues its assault on cyberspace today with the launch of the official website. This follows the superb lobby card images, standee and great trailer released over the last couple of days. If this movie fails to capture the public’s imagination, it certainly won’t be due to lack of effort.

The flash-heavy (dial-up users beware) site featues an official synopsis for both segments, full character profiles, some groovy but creepy music courtesy of Kurt Russel’s car radio and plenty of new images. Click here to visit.

gonglismall.jpgDuring interviews arranged to promote Curse Of The Golden Flower, Chinese film actress Gong Li has revealed why she turned down a role in Rush Hour 3.

When asked about the rumor circulating that Brett Ratner approached her to star alongside Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in the third installment of the franchise she said “Yes, he did contact me to be in that film but given the script that he showed me at the time, I thought that the character he wanted me for was maybe a little too simple for what I would like to play. So, I thought maybe I’ll pass on it this time but there will be another chance later to work with him again. Maybe then it would be a little bit more suitable for me, so I wouldn’t feel like he was wasting the actress.”

The movie is about the continuing adventures of LAPD Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) and Hong Kong Police Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) who reunite to battle the the Chinese Triads after the Chinese Ambassador is shot during a major address before the World Criminal Court Summit in Los Angeles.

sarahjansmall.jpgThe phenomenally successful BBC sci-fi show Doctor Who has spawned another spinoff series, The Sarah Jane Adventures, although this particular show is aimed at the kiddies rather than the adult target audience of Torchwood.

Bizarrely, this show has been gestating since 1981, after a pilot for a proposed spin-off television series titled K-9 and Company was filmed but never developed.

The show, starring Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane (assistant to both the third (Jon Pertwee) and the fourth (Tom Baker) Doctors), is being produced by BBC Wales for CBBC. A 60-minute special written by Russell T. Davies and Gareth Roberts will air 1 January 2007, with a full series to follow later in the year.

vaughansmall.jpgFans of hit TV show Lost might be pleased to learn that Brian K. Vaughan, the critically acclaimed American comic book writer responsible for series Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, Runaways, and Pride of Baghdad has been recruited to join the series writing team.

The announcement was made on Vaughan’s own website, bkv.tv and this is Vaughan’s first gig as television writer. This follows news earlier in the week that Vaughan will be working with Joss Whedon to write four issues of the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer “Season Eight” comic book.

“I’ve learned more about the creative process in two weeks inside the Lost writers’ room than I did in four (very rewarding) years at NYU’s film school” said Vaughan, “so hopefully, this new challenge will push me to become a stronger writer and help my work to evolve.”

Optimus Prime in the Transformers Teaser TrailerNelson, the moderator at Transformer’s director Michael Bay’s official forums, posted a message saying that the new teaser trailer beat the all-time download record: “On a side note, studio sources report that the all-time trailer download record was broken today by the TF teaser. It beat Spider Man 3 by a landslide. Just though you would like to know.”

Meanwhile, TransformersMovie.com has uploaded the new trailer… with a slight addition: at the end of the clip you can hear Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime, say: “Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.” This is the fan-submitted line that won the contest to be included in the film last month. Watch the updated trailer here.

Transformers: The Movie PrequelIDW Publishing has announced that they will be publishing a four part comic that ties in to Michael Bay’s live-action Transformers film released next summer. Co-writers Chris Ryall and Simon Furman will team up with artist Don Figueroa (all of whom have worked on Transformers comics before) to create Transformers: The Movie Prequel (out in February), a century spanning tale set on Cybertron and Earth which directly leads into the events of the film.

“This is no peripheral movie tie-in,” said Ryall. “Rather, it’s a fully realized, generations-spanning tale that also sets up and explains much of the backstory in the coming movie. With Paramount and Hasbro’s assistance, we’re able to show you the characters and explain some situations that are integral parts of the movie. It should also assuage any early fan trepidation and show that this prequel and the movie together are going to comprise quite an epic Transformers story.”

James CameronDirector James Cameron (Titanic, Terminator 2, Aliens) spoke to The Independent about his upcoming film Avatar, mentioning that it’s release has been pushed back a full year from summer 2008 to summer 2009.

Judging by what he says about the project, the wait will be worth it though: “Avatar is a very ambitious sci-fi movie. It’s a futuristic tale set on a planet 200 years hence. It’s an old-fashioned jungle adventure with an environmental conscience. It aspires to a mythic level of storytelling.”

The Silver SurferThe very first picture of the Silver Surfer has been exclusively unveiled by USA Today. Fox had initially planned to hold back on the release of this image until after the teaser trailer debuts (attached to copies of Night at the Museum which opens in theaters today), so that our first impression of him would be one of him in motion. And looking at this picture, I must say it would have been smarter to stick to that plan. See for yourself in our movie gallery.

Doug Jones (Hellboy) will act and voice the Silver Surfer, who will be a computer-generated character and “will look somewhere between gun metal and fluid metallics so you can see the body motion, the breathing, the muscle tone, the mood,” according to Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
