jasonbatemansmall.jpgIGN reports that Jason Bateman of Arrested Development fame is reportedly closing in on a deal to join Will Smith and Charlize Theron in the superhero-themed movie Tonight, He Comes.

According to ProductionWeekly.com, “Smith plays a down-and-out superhero who has a bad image with the public because he causes a lot of collateral damage while he solves crime, and he’s an alcoholic. Bateman plays a corporate public relations consultant, who after being rescued by Smith tries to repay him by revamping his image.”

The film will commence shooting in May of next year in Los Angeles with Peter Berg (Collateral, Smokin’ Aces) calling the shots. The screenplay is by Vincent Ngo with a rewrite by Vince Gilligan.

The film, scheduled for release March 23, 2007, is the fourth Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film released and this time around the visuals are created by computer-generated imagery (CGI) by Imagi Animation Studios. It is the first film in the franchise in 14 years, the last one having been released in 1993. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a team of four anthropomorphic turtle mutants, who are trained by their rodent sensei, Master Splinter, to become skilled ninja warriors. ironmanteaser.jpgParamount and Marvel have launched the Iron Man movie teaser site which reveals the logo for the upcoming film. The simple metallic text of the logo is presented in the familiar colours of the character’s suit written over what appears to be detail from the armoured chest plate. Click here to view the image in our gallery.

Iron Man is based on the Marvel Comic book hero created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Don Heck and Jack Kirby and first seen in Tales of Suspense #39 in March 1963. In the film, the scientist who goes on to become the armoured hero will be played by Robert Downey Jr whose real life addictions mirror somewhat the alcoholic demons that haunt his fictional character. Directorial duties have been taken up by John Favreau and the feature is slated for a May 2, 2008 release.

planetterrorsmall.jpgThey do say good things come in threes don’t they?

Following the earlier image assault we now have a mightily impressive Grindhouse trailer in glorious HD which amply demonstrates why this movie, or as the trailer gleefully declares “two no holds barred feature length motion pictures for the price of one!” is one of the most anticipated feature films of 2007. The trailer is available in 480p, 720p and 1080p. Enjoy.

Harry PotterThe title to the 7th Harry Potter book has been revealed on the JK Rowling website and by the press office at her publishers Bloomsbury.

The final installment in the series will be called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In legend, the ‘hallows’ are seen to represent either the royal regalia carried by the King, or the objects sought by someone such as a ‘Grail Quester’. The release date for the final Harry Potter has not been announced by the publisher, but Rowling is working toward a release in the summer of 2007.

grindhouse_lead.jpgAICN have acquired a batch of very cool Grindhouse lobby card images.

Grind House is a feature comprised of two horror movies by Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez. Inspired by late 70s and early 80s slasher films, Tarantino’s contribution, Deathproof is about a serial killer who uses his car to mutilate his victims. The Rodriguez half of the feature is a zombie movie called Planet Terror with ‘infected people menacing’ a town. The features will be conjoined by grind house style trailers by Eli Roth and Edgar Wright amongst others.

Harry PotterHarry Potter author Jo Rowling updated her site with a new diary entry in which she talks about her progress on book 7. She mentions that she’s currently “writing scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more”, and goes on “I both want, and don’t want, to finish this book (don’t worry, I will.)” She also mentions a recent dream she had, in which she was both Harry and the narrator - and which may or may not provide clues to the final book:

“I was searching for a Horcrux in a gigantic, crowded hall, which bore no resemblance to the Great Hall as I imagine it. As the narrator I knew perfectly well that the Horcrux was jammed in a hidden nook in the fireplace, while as Harry I was searching for it in all kinds of other places, while trying to make the people around me say lines I had pre-arranged for them. Meanwhile waiters and waitresses who work in the real cafe in which I have written huge parts of book seven roamed around me as though on stilts, all of them at least fifteen feet high. Perhaps I should cut back on the caffeine?”

TMNTThe entirely computer-generated TMNT (’Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’) hits theaters March 23, 2007, and Kevin Munroe’s reportedly gritty contribution to the franchise has now amassed a host of big names to voice certain characters.

According to USA Today, Zhang Ziyi (Memoirs of a Geisha) voices the baddie Karai, the leader of the evil Foot Ninja army; Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will voice the Turtles’ best human friend April, Chris Evans (Fantastic Four) will do the masked hockey-stick swinger Casey Jones, and filmmaker Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma) will get a cameo a greasy-spoon chief. The turtles themselves will not get any celebrity voices though.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
