Hollywood loves vampires. With several movies having been released over recent years and projects like 30 Days of Night and Town Creek in the pipeline it seems that the paying audience just can’t get enough of the undead. In a recent poll here on our message boards, the 1992 movie adaptation Bram Stoker’s Dracula came out on top as our member’s blood sucking feature of choice.
With this in mind I noted with interest that a brand new and rather lavish made-for-TV version is set to air in the UK over the holiday period. Being a BBC production one can at least expect the quality to be high and certainly the cast looks impeccable.

The spectacular and surprisingly gritty full teaser trailer for Michael Bay’s upcoming blockbuster Transformers has gone online on Yahoo UK.
It features the very first footage of the ‘robots in disguise’ in motion, in battle and transforming. While you don’t get to see Megatron, you’ll be able to catch glimpses of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Skorponok, Vortex and more! Oh yeah, and you’ll also get some hints on the plot, but of course you know everything about that already after reading our Transformers script review back in September. Watch the trailer by following this link.

ABC managed to get a greenlight for their adaptation of the British trash soap Footballer’s Wives, which ran for five seasons and 42 episodes from 2002-2006 and also enjoyed a successful run on US cable television. The show revolved around three ordinary women whose lives are transformed by the celebrity and fortune that come with marriage to sports superstars. The new take will be set in the world of American football rather than soccer but is said to retain much of the over-the-top spirit of the original.
Variety reports that Bryan Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns) is loosely involved to direct the pilot. The director has a three-for-one development deal with ABC which he signed last summer to develop projects under his Bad Hat Harry Productions banner. But a representative of Singer has said that he hadn’t decided yet which script to film under the terms of his ABC contract. Singer’s last TV pilot was Fox’s House.

Guillermo del Toro gave a very brief update on the status of Hellboy 2 (expected summer 2008) while promoting his latest release Pan’s Labyrinth. Fangoria has the quotes:
“We are preparing to shoot in May or June, but we don’t start casting until January. [...] We’re still fighting the budget battle, so it could still go on a while before we start. But the difference between the first one and the second film is that you get all of the beats that the first one had, but like any franchise you hope it will bring freshness to the characters. I hope that in a way, we will be reinventing what we did on the first one.”
