Appearing online today are the first three production stills from Jay Russell’s The Waterhorse, next year’s other Christmas fantasy epic (it’s set for release on December 7, 2007, the same date as The Golden Compass). And they’ve leaked onto… TheOneRing.net, of all places! I’m assuming some of the site’s excellent industry contacts that worked on the Lord of the Rings trilogy must now be lending their craft to The Waterhorse. See the images of the water creature here.
Based on the children’s fantasy novel by British author Dick King-Smith, The Waterhorse tells the story of a lonely boy in Scotland who finds a mysterious egg from which hatches a water horse - a mythical sea monster of Scottish legend. The film stars Emily Watson and Ben Chaplin.

Entertainment Weekly are running an exclusive early peek at one of next year’s most anticipated films: Grindhouse, the double feature by directors Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill) Robert Rodriguez (Sin City).
Most notably, the site’s first look gallery features the very first impressions of Tarantino’s half of the feature, titled Death Proof. And the shots show part of the enticing cast the director has lined up: there’s Kurt Russell as the psycho driver with his killer car, Rose McGowan as the scantily clad babe, and Lost’s Naveen Andrews as a zombie slayer. You can view the images here.

Moviehole has been chatting to director George Miller about who’ll be replacing Mel Gibson in the next outing for the long dormant Mad Max franchise, Mad Max IV: Fury Road.
“I’ve had a number of young well-known actors express a lot of interest”, said Miller, “They have to want to push the limits – they have to be lean and hungry”. During the interview the name of Paul Walker who is reportedly interested in the role was discussed. The Australian helmer goes on to confirm that Mad Max IV won’t be a sequel and therefore the role of Max will not be rewritten for a younger actor.
Although Warner Bros have not yet greenlit the project, apparently there have been enquiries from more than one studio. Mad Max IV: Fury Road was set to film in 2002, but the project was aborted when the dollar collapsed and took the budget with it.

In an interveiw with Variety, J.J. Abrams has confirmed that Star Trek XI is scheduled for release by Paramount Pictures in 2008 rather than a year later as some earlier reports suggested.
Although Abrams has yet to be confirmed as director, being presently recruited in a production role, it shouldn’t be too long before we know who is filling the director’s chair. Joining Abrams for production duties is Damon Lindelof with writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman penning the screenplay. Bryan Burk will executive produce.

Two high-resolution images from Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End have gone online at ComingSoon.net. The first is the same image (albeit in much better quality) featuring Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) that was posted on a Russian filmsite two weeks ago, the second is entirely new and depicts Chow Yun Fat’s character Captain Sao Fang alongside Barbossa and Sparrow.
You can view the images in our movie gallery: picture one, picture two. Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End is scheduled for release May 25, 2007.

The first official movie still from Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (the Fantasticar picture was more of a promotional shot) has been published in Ciné Live, a french movie magazine. It shows the four fantastics - The Thing, The Human Torch, Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic - walking towards a room somewhere indoors (though I must admit the characters look somewhat photoshopped onto the set).
You can view a scan of the picture at Flickr.com or in our movie gallery, where you’ll also find the image of the Fantasticar.
