Daniel Craig as Lord AsrielWhat appears to be the very first image of Daniel Craig (who plays the new Bond in Casino Royale) as Lord Asriel in His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass has surfaced on the net.

The image, signed by Craig, was sent to a fan who requested an autograph through the actor’s official fanmail address, so it is definitely not doctored. While there was no notice which film the picture was from, DanielCraig.Fan-sites.Org claims that it does not show Craig in any movie role he’s been before, and since it was reported that the actor sported a beard (as he does on the photo) on the set of The Golden Compass, the site concludes it must be a depiction of him as Lord Asriel. View an unsigned version of the image here in our movie gallery.

The JokerAussie actor Heath Ledger spoke to Mercury News about his upcoming role as The Joker in the Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight:

“[He’s a] pure anarchist….I still feel like it’s a character I’ve never done before, and I’m going to be donning a mask. I’m not really thinking about the commercial consequences. Maybe I should be. But at this point, it’s just an exciting next step.”

Rachel McAdamsMoviehole has dropped a hint that Rachel McAdams (The Wedding Crashers, Red Eye) may appear in Chris Nolan’s upcoming film The Dark Knight. The site mentions they’ve heard the actress’s name mentioned in conjunction with a new role in the Batman Begins sequel.

Batman-on-Film, a very useful resource for Batman film news, meanwhile concedes that this is the first they’ve heard of it, but venture to speculate McAdams in the role of Selina Kyle a.k.a. the Catwoman.

You can discuss if this is a good idea or not on the X-Boards.

Captain Jack SparrowSCI-FI recently caught up with Terry Rossio, co-writer of the Pirates of the Caribbean film trilogy, who said that Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End will have an epic finale:

“The most difficult thing about writing a trilogy is coming up with the climactic ending of the trilogy. […] So for that third film, you have not only the usual challenges of coming up with an ending, but somehow you have to have the ending of all endings.”

While part of the filming was done while the crew was shooting Dead Man’s Chest (part 2), production on At Worlds End is still ongoing and won’t be concluded until early 2007.

Hayden ChristensenAccording to Production Weekly, Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith) will star as the legendary ‘poker brat’ Phil Hellmuth in The Madison Kid.

In 1989, the 24-year-old Hellmuth became the youngest World Champion of Poker by defeating the two-time defending champion, Johnny Chan, in the World Series of Poker main event. Hellmuth attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for three years before dropping out to play poker full time much to the chagrin of his father, a professor at the school. The film will start shooting in Winnipeg (Canada) in April or May next year, based on a script provided by Hellmuth’s friend Bob Soderstrom.

Spike LeeSpike Lee, who’s currently developing a sequel to his last film Inside Man, has been employed by Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment to direct L.A. Riots, reports Variety. John Ridley will write the script while Brian Grazer will produce.

The film’s aim is to be a dramatic representation of the racially charged riots in April 1992, which followed the acquittal by a white jury of four police officers who were videotaped beating black motorist Rodney King, caused the death of 55 people, thousands of injuries and close to $1 billion in damage.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
