Happy FeetPenguins are cute. Their wiggly walk and their smoothly fluffy plumage is cause for sympathy in children and adults alike. This of course makes them great contenders to be the central figures in an animated film, which is the case in Happy Feet. Fortunately though, George Miller’s film goes far beyond today’s standard cute- antropomorphized- animals- voiced- by- Hollywood-stars kiddie film, delving into cinematic depths that serve to make it an enriching experience not just for children, but for adults also.

Optimus PrimeA release date for the first proper Transformers trailer (the ‘announcement’ teaser released earlier this year contained to footage from the film) has been set just before Christmas, if the necessary CGI work on Michael Bay’s live action adaptation of the 1980s cartoon goes ahead as scheduled.

Nelson, the moderator on director Bay’s official message boards at ShootForTheEdit.com, posted the following message: “I spoke to Mike about a week ago, and as you can imagine he’s busy editing the movie. He indicated that the trailer was basically done (minus a little CGI work) and that if all goes according to plan, the trailer should be out by the weekend of the 22nd of December.” The trailer could be attached to copies of one or more of the following films opening that week: Rocky Balboa, The Good Shepherd, Night at the Museum, Letters from Iwo Jima, and We Are Marshall.

Bumblebee (CG Rendering)Several new concept images from Michael Bay’s upcoming summer blockbuster Transformers have surfaced on the web recently, as well as pictures of some of the toys that will accompany the film’s release in July 2007.

A frontal concept artwork of Ratchet (the Autobot that transforms into a rescue vehicle) in his robot mode can be viewed here in our gallery. The artwork is held in the same style as previous images we’ve seen of Jazz, Optimus Prime and Megatron. Next, computer renderings (though how far advanced these are we cannot tell) of Bumblebee, Optimus and Megatron can be seen at Jalopnik.com. These shots offer a glimpse at some of the weapons and defintiely give a better impression of the robots’ colours, but the shots themselves are oddly cropped. And finally, the toys of Brawl, Barricade and Bumblebee are up on eBay. The photos on the auction pages show the toys from various angles, in robot and in vehicle mode.

caspiansmall.jpgNarniafans has published an interview with C.S. Lewis’ stepson Douglas Gresham in which he talks bout the progress on second movie adaptation of the Narnia book series, Prince Caspian.

Gresham confirms that the filmmakers are “pretty well advanced in pre-production with most conceptual realisation about done and a lot of pre-vis animatic being done. Location choices are about settled. Set design is under way and casting is well advanced; in other words we are pretty sure what the movie will look like.”

olyphantsmall.jpgAICN reports that Vin Diesel has lost the lead role in Hitman to Timothy Olyphant.

The Hawaiian born actor has made a name for himself playing Seth Bullock in the TV show Deadwood and has an upcoming role in Live Free or Die Hard.

Hitman is an adaptation of the Eidos video game which centres around a man known as Agent 47 (usually simply referred to as 47), an assassin for hire. Luc Besson has been bought in to co-produce the project with Chuck Gordon, Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter.  The movie should be released by 20th Century Fox towards the end of 2007.

Hulk Is Hero. It has been a long and hard two years for director Louis Letterier. To bring The Incredible Hulk to the screen was not only only a huge task in terms of scale but also in terms of a media and fanbase who were protective over a character they felt had been misconstrued [...]

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
