The french fantasy website Elbakin.net has picked up on a rumour that actors Eric Bana, Kevin Bacon and John Hurt have all joined the cast of His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass. The site has posted a scan from the french movie magazine Studio, who conducted an interview with Eva Green, in the context of her Bond girl role in Casino Royale. Green, who plays the witch Serafina Pekkala in The Golden Compass, briefly mentioned His Dark Materials in the interview:
“Je vais tourner dans À la croisée des mondes, les royaumes du Nord, de Chris Weitz. J’y joue une gentille sorcière. Nicole Kidman, Eric Bana, John Hurt et Kevin Bacon seront aussi à l’affiche du film. Le tournage se deroule à Londres, cet automne.”

The one question on everyone’s lips - ‘is Daniel Craig any good?’ - is thoroughly answered five minutes into the action packed, but surprisingly humble Casino Royale. This Bond is repackaged for 2006 and reinvigorates the franchise in the process. We are introduced to Bond in a black and white montage as he is acquiring his 00 status. Even by the time Craig does the trademark turn to screen and fire through the camera for the title sequence you’re already warming to him.

Zephyr from DarkHorizons has revealed a number of release dates from the studio schedules for 2008.
According to his report, the Wachowski Brothers’ Speed Racer will go head-to-head with Kung Fu Panda on May 23rd, 2008. He also confirmed that The Dark Knight will be released on July 18th, 2008 (reported earlier). Will Smith’s superhero action-drama Tonight He Comes is pencilled in for July 2, 2008, released only five days after The Incredible Hulk and the new Pixar film Wall-E. The Adam McKay comedy Step Brothers starring Will Ferrel and John C. Reilly will hit theaters July 25th, 2008. Last but not least is the next Dan Brown adaptation, Angels and Demons, which has been scheduled for December 12th, 2008.

In news that is set to disappoint fans of the Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson has confirmed to theonering.net Tokien fansite that he will not be involved in the making of The Hobbit. This follows news last week that Mark Ordesky of New Line was seeking another filmmaker to helm the project.
The email reads as follows-
“Dear One Ringers,
As you know, there’s been a lot of speculation about The Hobbit. We are often asked about when or if this film will ever be made. We have always responded that we would be very interested in making the film - if it were offered to us to make.
