matthewsmall.jpgIt seems that Matthew McConaughey will be given a second chance to make an impression in the action adventure genre with Fool’s Gold from Warner Bros. Having tested the waters as Dirk Pitt in 2005’s underperforming Sahara, the actor will be hopeful that this time around the movie will capture the public’s imagination.

McConaughey joins Donald Sutherland and Kate Hudson in a tale about a husband and wife who have spent eight years pursuing a lost treasure and are on the brink of divorce and financial ruin when a fresh clue surfaces, forcing them to reunite to find their fortune.

Sutherland has been cast as a billionaire called Nigel who finances the expedition and invites the couple to join him. Andy Tennant is directing.

madmaxsmall.jpgAICN reports that following Mel Gibson’s declaration that he won’t be involved in any more Mad Max features, the franchise might not be dead after all. George Miller, director of the Road Warrior has been interviewed by Infocus and confirmed that a fourth film is on the cards.

Mad Max 4 is so prepared, there seems to be a lot of momentum for it to get done. Right now, I’ve got another, smaller film to do, and then we’ll gear up and do “Mad Max” again. In what form and so on, I don’t know. But it hasn’t gotten stale in the meantime, and I’m very very keen to do it. It seems like there’s the appetite out there.”

Miller went on to confirm that the movie will be set in Max’s days in the Main Force Patrol prior to the events of the first film.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
