Andy Serkis, the actor who found fame with his ’synthespian’ performance as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy has been speaking to SCI Fi Wire about his work on the upcoming Beowulf and the art of performance/motion capture in general.

“I think that more motion capture is [being] used in film, and it’s becoming part of the mainstream and used in a mainstream way. It is … especially [true] with video games and the convergence of video games and film. It’s actually a really interesting time for actors. Robert Zemeckis has just made Beowulf with Anthony Hopkins and John Malkovich, Ray Winstone and all kinds of high-profile and serious actors creating these characters. They are creating the movements. They are creating the personalities, and it’s the manifestation of those characters which is being handed over.”

Fans of horror writer Clive Barker will be excited to learn that Hellraiser is getting the big budget remake treatment. The author himself confirmed on his own site that he’ll be writing the screenplay but didn’t elaborate on who will be involved in the production, although he did say that the project was greenlit by Bob Weinstein.

“It’s only that one that I really, really, really care about in terms of its remake value” said Barker “and it’ll be kind of fun to have the extra money to do the effects and all that cool stuff. So it puts me in the situation of writing both the beginning and the end of Pinhead at the same time – ‘In my end is my beginning…”

Harrison Ford has been talking about the Indiana Jones IV at the RomeFilmFest in Italy and although he’s 64 he reckons he’s still got what it takes to don the fedora and crack the bullwhip-

“We need to move on for artistic reasons and obvious physical reasons [but] I feel fit to continue and bring the same physical action,” he said.
