The Good GermanThe trailer for director Steven Soderbergh’s (Traffic, Solaris) new film The Good German has premiered online over on Apple’s trailer page. The black-and-white movie, which opens to a limited release December 8 (followed by the wide release January 19), has a high-profile cast attached to it including George Clooney, Cate Blanchett and Tobey Maguire.

Based on the novel by Joseph Kanon, The Good German takes place in the ruins of post-WWII Berlin, where U.S. Army war correspondent Jake Geismar (Clooney) becomes embroiled with Lena Brandt (Blanchett), a former lover whose missing husband is the object of a manhunt by both the American and Russian armies. Intrigue mounts as Jake tries to uncover the secrets Lena may be hiding in her desperation to get herself and her husband out of Berlin. Tully (Maguire), a soldier in the American army motor pool assigned to drive Jake around Berlin, has black market connections that may be Lena’s way out — or lead them all into even darker territory.

eragonicon.jpgThe Eragon marketing machine may finally be creaking into action, and not a moment too soon some might say. A complete version of the Flash-heavy official website (dial-up beware) has now been launched. Eragon is this year’s big budget fantasy blockbuster from Fox, adapted from Christopher Paolini’s award winning novel and starring Edward Speleers, Sienna Guillory, Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich and Robert Carlyle.

The site features some new imagery from the film and a synopsis which reads as follows-

Frank DarabontFrank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) will direct the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist for Dimension Films.

Darabont said the film has been in the works for almost 20 years and he originally planned to make his directorial debut with the project before deciding to direct The Shawshank Redemption instead.

Thomas Jane (The Punisher) is in talks to be a part of the cast.

Originally published in the 1980 anthology Dark Forces, The Mist tells the story of a small town in Maine which is enveloped by a deadly fog. The short story focuses on a large group of people who are trapped in a supermarket.

t4.jpgTerminator 4 co-writer Michael Ferris has been talking to Entertainment Weekly about what we can expect to see in the fourth outing of the sci-fi franchise. When asked about the possibility of original star Arnold Schwarzenegger appearing Ferris said, “Terminator 3 kind of closed the book on Schwarzenegger, as did his gubernatorial career.” When asked about the plot, the writer teased “You will learn about Skynet and what that postapolyptic future is like.”

Terminator 4 is scheduled for release in 2008 with Jonathon Mostow (Terminator 3, Sub-mariner) in the director’s chair.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
