torchwoodsmall.jpgThe BBC have released a trailer for the highly anticipated Torchwood sci-fi series. Torchwood is a 13-part drama series aimed at a post-watershed audience and has an organic link to Doctor Who. “Torchwood is a British sci-fi paranoid thriller, a cop show with a sense of humour,” says writer Russell T Davies. “It’s dark, wild and sexy, it’s the X Files meets This Life. It’s a stand-alone series for adult audiences which will have its own unique identity.”

Set in modern-day Cardiff, Torchwood stars John Barrowman as Captain Jack from Doctor Who; it was in the Christmas special and second series of Doctor Who that the story of Torchwood – a renegade group of investigators – was seeded. However, no stories will cross over between Torchwood and Doctor Who. The drama series is produced by BBC Wales and will be transmitted later this year.

thehobbitsmall.jpgIn response to a petition signed by 39116 fans desperate to see a film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, MGM has published an official reply. A statement delivered to the fan site The One Ring by MGM’s chief operating officer Rick Sands said -

“Peter Jackson’s phenomenal success with The Lord of the Rings trilogy makes him the first and most ideal choice for directing The Hobbit. MGM would be thrilled to collaborate with the Academy Award-winning director on this MGM New Line Cinema production. And, I’m sure to the delight of the 50,000 filmgoers who have petitioned us in recent weeks, demanding we bring this film to fruition, we have had a few initial conversations about the project with Mr. Jackson’s representatives.”

warmachine.jpgTerrence Howard, most recently seen in the musical drama Idlewild, has joined the cast of Jon Favreau’s Iron Man.

The Chicago born actor will play Jim ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes, fellow war veteran and friend of billionaire industrialist Tony Stark, who will be played by Robert Downey Junior. In the original Marvel comic, Rhodes is one of Stark’s closest associates and eventually dons the Iron Man armour himself, later becoming the superhero War Machine.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
