Empire caught up with Zack Snyder while the director is promoting his upcoming 300, and were able to get some quotes on his other anticipated adaptation, namely that of the Alan Moore comic Watchmen, which features outlawed superheroes during the Cold War. For the full interview, head over to Empire Online; here’s what Snyder had to say about the script:
“We’re getting ready to turn a script that we like into this studio. They’re pretty excited about it…I think the script that Alex (Tse) has done for us is the closest to the graphic novel it’s been [since development started], for better or for worse. I feel like Alex has done an awesome job. It’s keeping all the things that are cool about the comic.”

Jon Favreau, director of the upcoming Iron Man that will star Robert Downey Jr. in the title role (read our report), has spoken on the topic of practical effects versus computer generated ones (having worked with both kind on previous projects Elf and Zathura), stating that in Iron Man he’d like to employ CGI in a subtle, non-distracting way. According to Crave Online, the director is aware that by using only CGI, he’d “run the risk of making it look like you are watching somebody else play a video game.”
Talking about the Iron Man suit, Favreau said: “if you have too clunky of a figure it takes you out of the movie. You can’t do with a Robocop suit, what Iron Man has to do. He flies, he’s athletic, he’s acrobatic, he fights, [and] he shoots. He has to do a lot of things for you to justify making a movie about him.”

Variety reports that George Lucas is essentially abandoning theatrical releases in favor of television and direct downloads.
Interviewed recently at USC (where Lucas has donated $175 million to his old alma mater, the university’s prestigious film school), he stated, “We don’t want to make movies. We’re about to get into television. As far as Lucasfilm is concerned, we’ve moved away from the feature film thing because it’s too expensive and it’s too risky.
