The movie is about a youth called Eragon who lives with his Uncle and cousin on a remote farmstead, ignorant to the cloud of darkness that is descending about him. One day whilst out hunting he stumbles across an amazing hollow gemstone in the remote forests of the Spine, a wild mountain range near his home. Returning home, he is unable to sell the stone to pay for food for his family, and then startled to discover that the object is in fact an egg. While actor Doug Jones has been cast in the coveted role of the Silver Surfer in the upcoming Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (to be released June 2007), the Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that the character will be entirely computer-generated. 20th Century Fox has secured the services of special effects giants Weta Digital to animate the Silver Surfer, based on performance and movement references provided by Jones, a process very similar to how Weta created Gollum in The Lord of the Rings based on Andy Serkis’ performance. Weta is said to have developed an advanced computer-generated animation process that features updated motion-capture techniques.

The Scotsman has published the first two official movie stills from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth part of the series coming to theaters in May 2007. Currently, they are running only one of those stills on their online edition, but it can’t be long before the other one is scanned by a devoted fan and published on the net. The picture that is viewable shows Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) lying on the ground in an alley at night, with his wand drawn out towards an oncoming Dementor (not pictured). Readers of the book will identify this scene as being from the very beginning of the plot.
