USA Network has issued a press release confirming a fourth season for their hit tv show The 4400. The announcement comes just ahead of the third season’s finale, airing this Sunday. The series, which has garnered an Emmy nomination, will return to USA Network with 13 brand new episodes in summer 2007 with production scheduled to begin in Vancouver in early 2007. The science fiction show revolves around 4400 people who had previously gone missing suddenly reappearing, newly equipped with various forms of superhuman strengths, but with no recollection of the immediate past.

The Manroom reports that Disney and Buena Vista Home Entertainment will release Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, the second movie from the Pirates franchise in single and two-disc collector’s edition versions on December 5. The single-disc edition will feature two writer commentary tracks and a Bloopers of the Caribbean outtakes reel. The collector’s edition will include 8 hours of material including the movie, a selection of featurettes, a look at pirate lore and more. Both products boast a 2.35:1 widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 Enhanced sound.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest will retail at $19.95, while ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (Collector’s Edition)’ will be priced at $24.95.

Russell T. Davies, writer and producer of hit British Sci-Fi show Doctor Who has told the official magazine why he decided to scrap the spinoff series Rose Tyler: Earth Defense at the last minute. The decision to pull the show ended up costing him ‘a fortune’ but he was concerned that the spinoff could ultimately hurt the credibility of the main ‘Dr. Who’ series, which has commenced filming in Wales.
“It was actually commissioned by the controller of BBC One and budgeted” Davies said, “it spoils `Doctor Who` if we can see Rose, if we see as a concrete fact that her life continues to be as exciting without the Doctor”. Read the rest of this entry »

Latino Review managed to get a glimpse Guillermo del Toro’s screenplay for his recently greenlit sequel to the Mike Mignola comic book adaptation Hellboy, Hellboy 2: Rise of the Golden Army. The review mentions how del Toro ups the ante with more action than most films this year before the opening credits already! The film picks up right where the first one stopped and follows a mythical world, which starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth, so Hellboy and his team must save the world from the rebellious creatures. Rumours in the media have hinted that Doug Jones (Abe Sapien in Hellboy) has landed the Silver Surfer role in the upcoming Fantastic Four sequel, titled Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The actor had been reluctant to address the gossip at Comic Con last month, but it seems he finally confirmed his casting last week.
Aint-it-cool-news was sent a report by someone who met Jones in his local comic book store: “I asked Doug if it was true that he would be playing the Silver Surfer. He told me that the contracts were being signed at this moment and that he was going to begin shooting in Canada here in the next couple of weeks.”

IGN has picked up on a rumour that Dominic Purcell may be in line to replace Eric Bana in the sequel to Ang Lee’s Hulk. Purcell, who played Dracula/Drake in Blade: Trinity and stars on the TV show Prison Break, was confronted with the rumours on the New York radiostation WPLJ, and did while he neither denied nor confirmed them, the tone of his voice implied he was at least in talks about the Eric Bana/Hulk role with Universal. An audio file of Purcell talking on the radio can be heard on Superherohype.com. The yet to be titled new Hulk film, commonly referred to as Hulk 2 or The Incredible Hulk, will be directed by Louis Leterrier (The Transporter) for a 2008 release.

In an interview to be printed in the next issue of Empire magazine, published in the UK on Agust 25th, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford talk about the new Indiana Jones movie, scheduled for release in 2008.
“We’re basically going to do The Phantom Menace”, says Lucas, “People’s expectations are way higher than you can deliver. You could just get killed for the whole thing…We would do it for fun and just take the hit with the critics and the fans…But nobody wants to get into it unless they are really happy with it”.

In an interview about the upcoming Trust the Man, David Duchovny confirmed that the much delayed sequel to the 1998 X-Files movie is likely to go into production next year.
“There are some issues apparently that have to be resolved, but they’re not creative. I think that they’re financial.” said the actor. This news follows positive comments on co-star Gillian Anderson’s website suggesting the project is a go.

Mugglenet have published a scan from a New Zealand celebrity magazine showing activity on the set of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
The feature depicts stand-in Martin Bayfield being fitted in a giant Hagrid costume, complete with prosthetic head and Dame Maggie Smith as Minerva McGonagall in a wheelchair. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth adaptation of J K Rowling’s best-selling fantasy series is due for release in July 2007.
