At a press conference late Wednesday, August 16, following the two-day flight readiness review at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, NASA’s senior managers announced an Aug. 27 launch date for mission STS-115, resuming construction of the International Space Station. Launch is slated for 4:30 p.m. EDT.
NASA Administrator Michael Griffin said, “This was another great review and I’m looking forward to a great launch.”

Fans who are psyched for Michael Bay’s upcoming live-action Transformers film next year will be in for a treat tomorrow. On Friday, August 18, Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci, screenwriters of the highly-anticipated adaptation of the classic cartoon, will go online to host a live video chat on Yahoo!, which will take place at 2:00 PM EST (11:00 AM Pacific).
Kurtzman and Orci will be answering fan-submitted questions during the chat.

Arguably one of today’s most important and innovative bands, Radiohead performed within the confines of the charming amphitheater of Avenches, Switzerland on August 15th. The alternative rock band is known for reshuffling their set list after every gig, and with the possibility of selecting songs from six albums and a another half a dozen or so EPs, they can well afford to omit some of their biggest hits in favour of other material, keeping things fresh for themselves and adding a surprise factor for gig-goers.

20th Century Fox has confirmed to Superhero Hype! that the second Fantastic Four movie has a new name and will now be titled Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer. The movie was originally known as Fantastic Four and The Silver Surfer. Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer will see all of the original cast return to do battle with Doctor Doom and unravel the mystery of the extraterrestrial Silver Surfer. The movie, directed by Tim Story, is scheduled for release on June 15, 2007.

Aint-it-cool-news is running what looks like some form of test renders of Optimus Prime for Micheal Bay’s upcoming Transformers movie adaptation. The images had seemed to be doing the rounds on various forums before AICN snapped them up. One image shows Optimus’ arm, possibly in the middle of transforming (you can see some of the electronic parts on the inside), with a red flames detail on blue background on the upper part of the arm. The other picture is of Optimus’ face, and although the eye region is blacked out by a horizontal strip you can definitely make out that the infamous mouth plate design has been kept. If these images are legit, that is. See for youselves.

Cast and crew members of Lost gathered at Turtle Bay Resort on Hawaii to talk about the upcoming third season of the hit series at a party marking the release of the Season Two DVD set, reports the Associated Press. Lost fans can expect some big changes when new episodes return to ABC Oct. 4. There won’t be any more frustrating repeats. The producers said six all-new Lost episodes will air in consecutive weeks this fall; the season’s remaining 17 new episodes will be scheduled without interruption from midwinter to late spring.

Warner has today unveiled the official poster for Martin Scorsese’s new film The Departed, which stars an illustrous cast including Leonardo Di Caprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen and Alec Baldwin. The film is a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong cop film Internal Affairs (directed by Wai Keung Lau and Siu Fai Mak, with Andy Lau and Tony Leung in the lead roles) and is scheduled to open in cinemas October 6. The minimalistic poster is held in black, with the protagonists’ heads floating within the title text. Meanwhile, Warner has also supplied us with three new stills from the film.
