doctorwho.jpg(Official Press Release) When the BBC decided to release past episodes of the cult classic “Doctor Who” they discovered sadly that, although the soundtracks remained, over 100 episodes were missing from their archives. But with today’s technology all was not lost and BBC Interactive Drama and Entertainment went to work with Manchester based animators Cosgrove Hall to recreate two episodes from the previously incomplete 1968 Cyberman story – The Invasion.

Charlie Kaufman, Oscar winner for Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless MindCharlie Kaufman, one of Hollywood’s most brilliant and innovative screenwriters (he wrote the scripts for Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind) will give his directorial debut with Synecdoche, a film about an anguished playwright and the women in his life (the final product is bound to be more complex than that). Filming is scheduled to begin in early summer 2007, and Kaufman has so far lined up Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote, Mission Impossible III) and Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) in his cast.
A synecdoche is a rhetorical tropus (metaphor is a different kind of tropus), a figure of speech in which a part is used to describe a whole or vica versa (e.g. ‘blade’ for ‘knife’).

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
