Warner Bros have announced that they are rescheduling the release date of Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain. The new date of November 22 (previously October 13) will see the film pitted directly against the Tony Scott movie, Deja Vu, a similarly themed tale about a man travelling in time to save the woman he loves.

With a story spanning one thousand years, The Fountain tells three parallel tales of Tomas and his struggle to save the woman he loves. The first is the tale of Captain Tomas Creo, leader of a team of Spanish conquistadors in search of the ‘Tree of Life’ in the Mayan jungle in 1535. The second thread of the story transports us to the year 2500 where another Tomas makes a dangerous and mystical journey by spacecraft, while the third tells the tale of a modern day doctor who is searching for a cure for cancer.

The JokerJeff Robinov, President of Production at Warner Bros has announced that the title of the next Batman film will be The Dark Knight.

He also confirmed that Heath Ledger will take the role of the Joker saying, “We also can’t wait to see two such formidable actors as Christian and Heath face off with each other as Batman and The Joker.” Reinforcing the studios faith in helmer Chris Nolan, Robinov said “Chris’ unique vision is what made Batman Begins such an outstanding film and we could not imagine anyone else at the helm of The Dark Knight”.

Regarding the choice to cast Ledger, Nolan said “I’m excited to continue the story we started with Batman Begins. Our challenge in casting The Joker was to find an actor who is not just extraordinarily talented but fearless. Watching Heath Ledger’s interpretation of this iconic character taking on Christian Bale’s Batman is going to be incredible.”

The Dark Knight will begin shooting in early 2007 and the two actors (Bale and Ledger) will get to know each other by appearing in the Bob Dylan themed movie I’m Not There. The Dark Knight story will involve Batman enlisting the help of Lt. Gordon (Gary Oldman) and Harvey Dent (rumored to be played by Ryan Phillipe) in bringing down the Joker. D.A. Harvey Dent will later go on to become Two Face. Philip Seymour Hoffman is apparently Nolan’s preferred choice for the role of the Penguin, a character who according to Batman-on-Film.com will be reimiagined as ‘a British arms dealer/mob boss with designs on Gotham.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
