In the midst of blockbuster season I thought it would be interesting to take a look at some movies at the other end of the financial spectrum. With George Lucas himself recently predicting the demise of the Hollywood megapicture and the rise of the independent and low budget movie, let’s take a look at three of the smaller incoming projects creeping ‘under the radar’

The Tournament
First up is The Tournament, a very interesting action-thriller from Mann Made and Northmen productions funded in part by the UK National Lottery.
The plot revolves around a tournament that is staged once every decade in an English town where a battle royale between 40 of the world’s deadliest assassins takes place. The tournament is transimitted live by CCTV 24 hours a day to a secret ring of high stakes billionaire gamblers who bet upon the result. The prize for last man standing is $10 million and the dubious honor of being the world’s number one professional killer, a title itself which carries the legendary $1 million per bullet price tag.
