When The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe opens in theaters next week, audiences will be treated to another series of epic fantasy books that has been adapted for the big screen. Narnia will try to establish itself as the next big fantasy series after The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, the December release having proved very successful for the former. What sets The Chronicles of Narnia apart from Tolkien’s tales of Hobbits and magic rings and Rowling’s adventures of a bespectacled wizard is the compactness: each of the seven Narnia books is merely just over a hundred pages long (or rather: short) and very greedy (or simply indifferent) in matters of details and depth.
